Archives
The TIFR Archives stores the collective memory of the institute by preserving papers, documents, photographs, sound recordings that tell the history of the Institute from 1945 to the present. Researchers will find here a wealth of resources for the history of science in India.
The idea of separate Archives for TIFR was proposed in 1995-96 during the Institute's golden jubilee celebrations. The collection process began in 2002 when Mr J.D. Isloor, formerly Scientific Officer in the TIFR Radio Astronomy Group started collecting documents. The same year, Dr. Indira Chowdhury, on sabbatical from Jadavpur University and based at NCBS, Bangalore started an oral history project on Biology at TIFR. In 2004, Dr. Indira Chowdhury, J.D. Isloor and Vrunda Pathare began a systematic collection for the TIFR Archives which has since grown. At present, Ms Oindrila Raychaudhuri is Assistant Archivist and Ms Ananya Dasgupta, Consultant Editor for the Oral History project, while Dr Indira Chowdhury continues to guide the project as Consultant Archivist.
